A Single-Family Office is looking to add a CIO within their sophisticated Family Office in Casablanca, Morocco. The position will report to the Family Office CEO and the Investment Committee.
My client’s source of wealth has been a portfolio of multiple successful operating businesses diversified across different industries from Financial Services, BPO/ CRM to Education and Agriculture. The family office already has a team of highly competent investment specialists and runs a sophisticated portfolio consisting of multiple asset classes. For further professionalising the outfit they are now on the lookout for an experience CIO to join their team.
The ideal candidate will be currently in a CIO or Senior Investment position within a Family office or a known financial institution. As a functional CIO they will have a solid investment background understanding all aspects of investments including both classical traditional liquid asset classes (Equities, Fixed Income, FX, Structures) and more alternative investments such as private equity, hedge funds and the like.
Experience in strategic asset allocation and manager selection would be critical. With the level of experience this role requires, one would be expected to have relationships with various fund managers across different financial hubs in the west. The ideal candidate must have proven team leadership experience including the identification, hiring and retention of top performing talents. The role will involve liaising with external stakeholders critical to the business and whilst having a strong technical understanding is a prerequisite, cultural fit is also an important consideration to the family.
Some of the key elements of the role are as follows
- Strategy and governance
- Actively helps create, implement, and coordinate a comprehensive family financial strategy and investment policy
- Organizes and implements an asset allocation strategy built around the principles and benchmarks as indicated and agreed upon by the Investment Committee
- Keeps a macro view of the global situation, derives impact on the portfolio and raises red flags to the CEO and Investment Committee
- Continuously monitors the portfolio with different simulations to assess underlying risk (e.g. Monte Carlo Simulation) and to ensure it lies within the risk and returns parameters
- Coordinates and prepares the Investment Committee presentations and keeps track of the overall governance (i.e. committees with money managers)
- Portfolio management
- Sources, selects, diversifies, and monitors the money managers who carry out the investing of various aspects of the portfolio, including cash management, bonds, equities and others (definition of mandates, rebalancing of assets if needed, etc.)
- Deploys further capital created from expected liquidity events as per the Investment Policies and other metrics in place
- Performs deep dive analysis on specific sectors/ securities, liaising with in-house and outsourced financial team
- Manages the relationship with managers and banks (incl. negotiation of fees)
- Middle and back office
- Impeccably utilizes the available account aggregation, reporting and risk metrics/analytics capabilities of the SFO in customizing the services and data to the desires of the family
- Puts in place adequate processes (e.g. due diligence)
- Implements adequate IT infrastructure
- Provides consolidated view of the portfolio composition and key metrics
- Monitors regulatory filings/ tax efficiency and liaising with external advisors to ensure this is optimised
Qualifications:
- An applicant will have to show a steady career progression towards a similar position and must be in a similar role at present.
- The applicant must have experience in managing portfolios
- The successful candidate will have a financial qualification
- The successful candidate will have extensive experience in investments within the financial services industry, preferably with some experience in a family office or dealing with HNW individuals
- Finally, the successful applicant will have the flexibility to undertake a variety of duties and additional responsibilities if and when necessary
- French speaking is a plus
