Meet Paul Westall

Paul Westall is the co-founder of Agreus, a recruitment specialist that works with Family Offices. He boasts a background in sports management, with a lifelong passion for football that led him to athlete representation in his early career. He later transitioned through a marketing and sales role in the health industry to financial service recruitment.

In his six years prior to setting up Agreus, Paul worked across corporate banking, private banking, wealth management and investment banking recruitment. During that time, Paul discovered a unique opportunity in the Family Office market when he was approached by a client from the Single-Family Office space. Recognising its untapped potential and low competition, he co-founded Agreus with Tayyab Mohamed in 2010, driven by a vision to bring value to clients in this exclusive space.

 

A day in the life

Paul kicks off his day with a cup of tea with his wife and two children. He confesses to not being a huge coffee person – unlike a lot of other CEOs. If the weather in London plays nice, Paul tries to take the opportunity to get some early morning fitness by cycling the 10-mile commute into the city.

With the day laid out before him, Paul takes a moment to jot down his priorities, crafting a to-do list that allows him to be more productive throughout the day. It’s a simple yet effective strategy that keeps him grounded and focused.

Agreus operates across three global offices – in the UK, the US, and Singapore. While Paul is primarily based in the London office, his role does require a fair amount of travel. When we spoke, he had just returned from the US after spending two weeks with the US team.

Paul is committed to growing the global brand of Agreus, so he actively participates in all the morning meetings with the regional teams. For him, these are not mere formalities – they are collaborative sessions crucial for understanding and supporting the company’s diverse teams. To cater to the time difference between each office, he begins by speaking to the team head of Singapore. He then attends the UK team’s morning meeting which is led by their head, Jeremy Green. Then, he catches up with the US team in the afternoon.

As part of growing the brand, Paul also contributes a lot to the marketing of Agreus. He is heavily involved in content creation and thought leadership. Whether it’s crafting compelling blog posts or sharing insights on podcasts, he is a hands-on contributor to the brand’s narrative. He often attends networking event but has learned over the years to be very selective to what events to go to and the business is more focussed on creating and hosting their own events for their clients.

Paul says time management is vital for a role like his. Identifying daily priorities, from meeting new clients to supporting the team on various mandates, he organises his schedule with precision. His mornings are dedicated to the UK and Singapore teams, and he spends more time lending his support across the pond to the US team in the afternoons.

Acknowledging the importance of work-life balance, Paul emphasises sports and fitness to relieve stress, so he plays football once a week and has boxed twice a week for over eight years. As a long-suffering West Ham fan, he has season tickets at the London Stadium and goes to most home games with his son. The remainder of the weekend is spent with his family and friends and enjoys eating out across London.
