A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for a Legal and Compliance Officer to join a Single Family Office based in Jersey. If you have experience of working with Family Offices, especially with providing high level legal advice to an UHNWI then this could be an interesting step for you.

The Successful Application:

The applicant will be a fully qualified lawyer qualified in a common law jurisdiction with at least 5 years’ professional experience working in an offshore environment preferably working with SPVs, trusts and family owned assets.

The application should generally have the following exposures:

  • Familiar with trust and SPV structures used by Family Offices to hold different asset classes (real estate, yacht, plane, art collection etc)
  • Purchase and letting of privately held real estate
  • Familiarity with offshore concepts such as substance rules and transfer pricing
  • A familiarity with civil law concepts like Foundations would be advantageous
  • Experience in drafting corporate minutes and related documentation
  • Transaction and dispute resolution / litigation experience
  • Familiar with AML/KYC/CRS/FATCA matters as they relate to trust and non-trust structures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Able to write clearly and concisely
  • Ability to prioritize a large number of tasks
  • Highly organized and able to work well under pressure / tight deadlines
  • Organize board meetings and AGMs including the drafting of all related documentation
  • Comply with a large number of AML & KYC queries (this is a function of the large numbers of funds the Family Office has invested in)
  • Able to build and maintain legal filing system
  • Ensure all entities remain compliant with their legal obligations
  • Work with law firms across common law and civil law jurisdictions on various legal matters including employment matters, contracts, ad-hoc agreements, lettings, purchase and sale agreements and trust related matters
  • Provide written advice and recommendations
  • Reviewing legal documentation including contracts, agreements, NDAs etc
  • Drafting of legal documentation including minutes, agreements, NDAs etc
  • Assess likely risks and suggest mitigation strategies
