Our client is an integrated and self-managed single family office with a portfolio of both Public and Private Investments (direct equity investments and indirect via venture/equity funds) worldwide. They focus on early-to-mid stage high-growth investments across a number of sectors, including but not limited to Technology, Energy, Mining, Retail, Consumer Products and Agriculture.
This is both a passive and active investment role, providing strategic hands-on support to the Founders / Management Teams that have a clear strategic pathway to market and / or growth.
They have a small, but experienced team of investment professionals with a blend of sector and functional expertise as well as an extensive international network, which is leveraged to the benefit of their portfolio companies. Offices are in London, Monaco and Sydney.
They are looking to add a team member to join the London office and be part of the successful growth of the investment team focused on the Financial Modelling, Investment Appraisal, monthly and quarterly reporting.
Job Description
The successful candidate will most likely have demonstrated an interest in investment finance with previous work experience in either investment banking/venture capital or investment management. The analytical role will leverage existing experience of investment appraisal techniques (valuation, due diligence etc.) and the successful candidate is likely to have an advanced knowledge of Excel with a particular aptitude in financial modelling. The role will require a broad range of responsibilities and skillsets including, but not limited to:
- Using/building complex financial models from the bottom up using Microsoft Excel, integrating advanced Excel formulae to develop dynamic models to stress test and allow multiple assumption inputs functionality (analysing existing as well as new investment opportunities)
- Using appraisal analysis to provide investment insight and support the investment team in the decision making process (using in house financial models)
- Analysing stock/bond/commodity and currency market performance across a broad range of asset classes/sectors
- Assistance with the preparation of weekly/monthly/quarterly investment reports across the business
Candidates should note that a detailed understanding of Excel is an important part of the day-to-day role and accordingly, there will be opportunities to follow Excel modelling courses and/or training in house to either develop or enhance existing expertise.
As part of the recruitment process, an Excel modelling assessment as well as a case study covering key aspects of investment management/appraisal may be undertaken.
Suitable candidates will likely come from the following backgrounds:
- 2-3 years’ experience primarily at a top-tier strategy consultancy or venture capital/private equity fund
- Experience in due diligence and valuation projects
- Top academics: top degree from Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial etc
- Highly numerate, e.g. A+ in Maths, ideally Further Maths or Physics at A level, and top percentile in relevant aptitude tests
- An interest in investment and equities (read around subject; invested own money etc.) ideally with an ability to articulate what an attractive investment opportunity looks like
- CFA and MBA qualifications would also be advantageous
This is a small team so the cultural/personal fit is as important as having the technical skillset.

Remuneration will be commensurate with the duties and demands of the role, the experience of the candidate and will likely be in the region of £55,000 to £75,000 plus some discretionary bonus.
